Death Valley Indian Paint Rock

Indian Paint Rock is an interesting sandstone collected in Death Valley California, before it was declared a protected area. As you might imagine this material is getting very rare. The colorful red yellow and black patterns are created by manganese and iron finding their way through minute cracks in the sandstone. This material takes a somewhat muted shine with the black hematite veins taking on a high shine.
