Malachite and Azurite are both simple Copper carbonates. Azurite occurs as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zones of copper deposits. Where as Malachite occurs as an alteration product in the oxidized zones of copper deposits. They are chemical twins. The only differences is that Azurite holds less water than Malachite. Azurite and Malachite are often mixed together and make great looking cabochons. This specimen has a lot of pure malachite bubbles on either end and the middle has a lot of bubbles too and some other interesting shapes. Sa a matter of fact the specimen seems to have been formed around a basalt center or was a floter because it is covered on all sides. This specimen is in excelent condition. The left end bubbles are also a very bright green. This malachite is from Zaire, Africa. The camera makes this look polished but it's not. It is a very pretty green but not highly shined
