It's often hard to assign what type of chalcedony a particular stone might be. Determining if your stone is an agate or a jasper is easy when the material is clearly semitransparent, translucent or opaque. But distinguishing between translucent and opaque can be difficult. Also specimens can have translucent zones and opaque zones. This problem is solved with the name Jaspagate, for specimen contains both jasper and agate.
